Obituary for Alfredo Gonzalez

Alfredo was born and raised in San Gregorio, Mexico before moving to The United States of America. He is preceded in death by his parents Enrique and Portfiria; his siblings Wenceslao, Ernesto, Enedino, Conchita, and Beto; his wife Maria; and his son Alfredo, Jr.

He is survived by his daughter Rosalinda (Herman) Pino; and son Jorge Gonzalez; granddaughters Jennifer (Dale) Roberts, Tonya (Rex) Amicone, Christie (Bonnie) Pino Fraser, Brandy Gonzalez, Veronica (Jay) Ehmke, and Joanna Gonzalez; great-granddaughters Felicia and Isabella Gonzalez, Julia, Madisen, and Olivia Roberts, and Adrianna Amicone; sister in-law Bertha and many other various extended family members.

Alfredo was an avid traveler and explorer. He enjoyed experiencing new places and cultures and backpacked through Europe and South America with this youngest son Jorge. He continued to enjoy travel almost right up until the end, his last trip being a family vacation through the national parks and monuments across Wyoming, South and North Dakota so he could see Mt. Rushmore.

In addition to his love of travel, Alfredo enjoyed gardening, and photography, tennis, bowling, and playing marbles with the family – for money of course! He also excelled at cheating at said marble games…and would just laugh and chuckle when caught (which, honestly, happened often!)

You would always find him in a hat – whether it was his fishing hats for shade or his favorite pompom knit beanies – a hat was never far away. They were part of his signature look along with his dress pants, button down shirt and light jacket.

Alfredo continued to be active until late in life, retiring first after 20 years of service with school district 20, then later retiring from the Kissing Camels Golf Club after another 20 years of service there. At age 94 he decided he wanted to make his citizenship official and he began studying. He achieved his goal at age 96 when he gained his official US citizenship.

In addition to going out on hikes and outings until late in life with his daughter Rosie and whatever other family was joining in on the outing, Alfredo also continued to head down to the basement for his daily workout on the treadmill and to lift weights until the ripe old age of ninety, at which point he switched over to heading to the gym to get his workouts in, three times a week. Almost right up until the end, he could always be found doing squats on just about any given day at any time.

Alfredo had a big personality and lived a full life that his family is thankful for. He will be greatly missed.
