Obituary for Anna Winters

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Anna Winters on the morning of January 3, 2022. Mom passed away peacefully at Viewpointe Assisted Living & Memory Care, at the age of 95. Anna was born on March 14, 1926 in Muhlstatt, Germany to Elisabeth and Georg Zweckstetter. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, two brothers, her husband Robert E. Winters, and great-granddaughter, Alena Grace Walker

Anna was raised on a farm in Muhlstatt, and met Robert in Munich where he was stationed in the Army. They were married in Munich on December 17, 1955 and soon returned to the US where their first son John was born in 1957 at Fort Ord, CA. She was so proud when she became a US Citizen on February 14, 1958. Anna was always extremely patriotic, was so grateful to be an American, and had a great love for her country. Robert and Anna were stationed on several military bases over the next 20 years, including back to Germany where son Jim was born in 1958. Robert retired from Fort Carson and they settled in Widefield for 50 years. Anna was a member of The Retired Enlisted Association and did volunteer work there for many years. At TREA she met many dear friends, enjoyed dancing, and played pinochle weekly well into her 90’s. She loved working in her flower garden and tending the roses Robert planted before his death. Anna also enjoyed the great outdoors, camping and fishing all over the west with her family.

Anna is survived by sons, John Winters (Kathy), and Jim Winters (Melanie); three granddaughters, Hannah Walker (Andrew), Alexandria Winters, and Megan Winters; and great-grandson Nolan Walker. She also leaves behind step-grandson, Justin West (Nicole) and great-grandchildren Olivia and Gavin West. Omi will be missed by all.

Anna will be laid to rest next to her husband on his birthday at a graveside service on January 13, 2022 at 2:00, at Evergreen Cemetery, led by Chaplain Todd Sinclair.

In lieu of flowers, the next time you see a rose, please keep our mom in your memory.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Abode Hospice, and the staff at ViewPointe Assisted Living & Memory Care.
