At the age 81, Arturo Hernandez - Contreras, entered into eternal rest on the morning of February 10, 2021.

Arturo was born on August 17, 1939 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, and raised in Laredo, Texas. He was preceded in death and is now reunited with his mother, Librada Hernandez and his father, Eufrasio Contreras.

He is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 59 years, Helen Perez-Contreras, and his seven children: John Contreras, Carol Martinez, Tina Contreras, Manuel Contreras, Ginny Castillo, Patricia Maldonado, and Jessie Contreras.

Not only was he a great man and father, Arturo was an amazing grandfather that devoted his time and love, no matter how big or small. He will be lovingly remembered by 24 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Being eldest of his family, Arturo took on the responsibilities to care for, to protect and to work hard for his six siblings. He is survived by his four sisters: Herlinda Cadena, San Juana Cordova, Concepcion Lopez, and Rosa Laura Lopez, and two brothers: Gabriel Contreras and Alfredo Contreras.

Arturo had three treasures that he valued unconditionally: his faith, his family and his music. Arturo was a devout catholic, and his faith had guided him to pursue his greatest passions. He was best known for playing the accordion and singing Tejano music. His songs will forever play in the hearts of his closest friends and his entire family.

Over the years, Arturo had gained friendships that followed him through out the many stages of his life. He cherished the countless times spent with his compadres and friends laughing and reminiscing of the good old days. With a genuine heart and a mutual respectful each other, Arturo’s friends became his extended family.

It is with great sadness that the family and friends of Arturo Contreras say their final good bye to the man that had brought so much love, laughter, and music into their lives.
