Obituary for Christina Ann Ferreira Porcadilla

Mother and writer Christina Ann Ferreira Porcadilla’s love life didn’t come to an end with her death. Christina passed away on February 15th, 2021 at the age of 43 after a courageous battle with COVID-19, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

Christina was born in Bakersfield California to Mother Joyce Joetta Lewis and Father Constantino Joseph Ferreira.

Christina’s early years were spent at her children’s elementary school where she worked as a lunch lady. She started the after-school program where she was creativity allowed to aid students by graciously serving them food after school hours. She then moved into helping students with special needs as a substitute teacher, having patience and compassion for all her students.

The simplest pleasures in life brought joy to Christina. She loved mid-autumn days where the breeze was just right. A book in her hand and her mind wandering off to faraway places, kings and queens, sailing the Pacific Ocean, or rereading Fabio the Rogue for a little fun. There was no book safe with Christina.

She had an uncanny ability to find happiness in her daily activities. Her very pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. She was kind and always made time for everyone she could. She loved with a big heart and put everyone’s needs before her own.

Christina loved being in the kitchen, baking delicious homemade cookies. Her secret recipes were her ultimate weapon in a cloud of powder sugar and vanilla extract she could bake anything. She was a skilled painter and filled her home with a colorful collection of paintings. Christina also loved to craft. She made mountains of scrapbooks and holiday cards, she was very artistic and talented with paper. Christina loved reading palms and reading tarot cards; she looked forward to family gatherings so she could do just that. She was always in tune with her cards, and they held a special place in her heart; being able to read tarot is unimaginably brave and nurturing.

Occasional weekends were spent volunteering at MS Walks for Colorado. The defining characteristic that shined the brightest was her strength and bravery. Christina did find struggle in her life. Christina was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis on January 17, 2010. From there her life changed, however, she did not let that stop her. She would have 3 major relapses where she was paralyzed, instead of letting this affect her- she had determination and worked hard to gain the mobility to walk and talk all over again. This was the determination that you saw from Christina always battling something but never giving up. This was a stance of her might, not letting her battle scars defy her. Christina is a survivor of ovarian cancer. She also had fibromyalgia. Her strength will always be a monument to her loved ones.

Christina is survived by her husband, Jaime; two sons, JayJay and Ryan; a daughter, Briana Juliana; and many cousins.
