Obituary

Derold Norman Pederson was born August 10, 1943, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was the oldest son of Norman W. Pederson and Frances V. Pederson (Gaynor), both of whom have preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his younger siblings: brother Wayne and his sisters Leatrice (Peterson), Donna (Thompson), and Rosanne (Frontino).

He is survived by his sisters Pauline (Williams) and Barbara (Nolan); his brother Leroy James; numerous nieces and nephews; his brother-in-law Dave Thompson; his former wife Judith (Ackerman); his children Deanna and Gary (Grudznske), Brian and Lomie, David and Tamera, Christine and Ray (Kofford), and Matthew and Catherine, as well as 14 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Derold was a mechanic in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany as well as Truax Airbase in Madison, Wisconsin (in early 60's).

Derold met his wife and the mother of his children in Madison, Wisconsin and spent most of his life in that area, until 2017 when he moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to his youngest daughter.

He loved the mountains and wildlife of Colorado and often took random car drives when he could, just to see the sights.

Derold was a skilled carpenter most of his life until retiring in 1995. He often brought his kids to help on jobs and even taught what he knew to them. He was never a math whiz until he needed to calculate something for a build, then he could do so with ease. Just hand him a tape measure and plans and he could build anything. He then worked in Sanitation and Production at Oscar Mayer for 11 years until he retired from that in 2006. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting over the years. He loved to go out in the woods and would take his family and friends whenever possible.

Derold was one of Jehovah's Witnesses for many years and had a strong faith in the future promise of God's Kingdom to solve mankind's problems and bring the whole earth into a beautiful garden paradise. He had the hope of the future resurrection of the dead into that beautiful paradise, of which he now awaits just like a sleep to be awakened from.
