Obituary for Donnis Anita Martin

Donnis A. Pearson Martin, 74, born in Limon, Colorado to Clarence B. Pearson and Juanita R. Pearson gained her angel wings on December 27, 2021. During her youth, she moved often between Montana, Idaho, and Colorado. She was proud to be a Colorado Native and planted her roots in Colorado Springs where she subsequently lived for 55 years before moving to Walsenburg. She raised her kids, started a career, and actively worked to make her community a better place for everyone.

Donnis was the first in her family to attend college earning a Bachelors Degree in Communication and a Masters Degree in Organizational Management. She worked in CSSD11 where she was known and loved by all. She started as an Educational Assistant for severe needs students, then moved to an Administrative Assistant position, ESP President, and finally Director for ESP in Human Resources. After retiring from District 11, Donnis started volunteering and then working at Partners in Housing. She was instrumental in the partnership between Partners in Housing and Leadership Pikes Peak. She acquired sponsorship and built the WCLI program from the ground up. This program still exists nearly 29 years later. Empowering women to overcome homelessness and domestic violence and reach their full potential became her passion. Over the years, Donnis has served on the Colorado Springs Housing Authority Board and was a current board member for Kingdom Builders Family Life Center. In addition, she was a member of the Alpha Iota International Businesswomen Sorority and a founding member of the Colorado Springs Elite Canasta Club where she enjoyed monthly meetings of fellowship and laughter for over 40 years.

Donnis viewed life as an ADVENTURE! She enjoyed traveling, camping in the mountains, looking for beautiful flowers, raising Suri Alpacas, and counting her blessings.

Donnis is preceded in death by her parents, maternal grandparents-Frank and Hazel Malloy, paternal grandparents-Clarence A. and Ruth Pearson, and father of her children-Larry Martin. She lives on in the hearts of her daughter Stacey (Angelo) Sanchez of Colorado Springs, son Ronald (Michelle) Martin of Colorado Springs, and Curtis (Julie) Martin of North Carolina, her “Buddy” Robert Montoya of Walsenburg, sister Nola Renz of Washington, grandchildren Kayla (Donnie) Lovett, Kyle Sanchez, Tyler and Jared Martin, Stephen and Graham Martin, great-grandchildren Kaylee and Hayden, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Services for Donnis will be held in mid-June 2022. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in mom’s name to Kingdom Builders Family Life Center of Colorado Springs.
