Obituary for Eugene Kent Brink

Rev. Dr. Eugene K. Brink, age 94, minister of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for 70 years, died in Colorado Springs on Sunday, February 16, 2020.

Brink was born on July 3, 1925 in Tampa, Florida. He was married on July 17, 1946 to his church camp sweetheart Dorothy McCleary Brink who died in 1975. He is survived by 3 sons: James of Fort Collins, David of Borger, Texas and Banyat Adipat of Aurora; one daughter Nancy of Orange, California; seven grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; his sister Mary Blakley of Michigan and sister-in-law Harriet McCleary of Minnesota.

He is preceded in death by his long-time companion, Ret. Col. Ross Weatherford, his brother Larry Brink and sister Barbara Grossman. The newest editions of the Brink family are Etel Sierra and her daughter Maya who have been faithful caregivers and friends for the past 7 months of his final illness.

Rev. Brink was an Ensign in the Naval Reserve and service in the Pacific during World War II and was Commanding Officer of LCI 747 as he completed his service. He received his BA, M.Div. and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Texas Christian University and Brite Divinity School. He was ordained on September 11, 1949 at Heights Christian Church in Houston, Texas. He served Disciples churches in Alexandria, Louisiana, Carrollton, Texas and Hereford, Texas before becoming Area Minister of the Dallas Area Association of the Christian Churches for ten years. After moving to Colorado Springs in 1986, he served as Associate Minister of First Christian Church and continued as an active member there until his death.

Brink loved travel, reading, playing games and entertaining. To the end he was funny and engaged with family and friends.
