Obituary for Harold D. Smith
Harold Donavon Smith
Harold passed away on June 22, 2019 at the age 101 years.
He was born in Marlette, Michigan on a farm on February 12, 1918 to Ethel and Egbert Smith.
He had one brother, Kenneth, and three sisters, Betty, Donna, and Genevieve.
He graduated from Marlette High School in 1935 and became a salesman for Acme Art Co.
He also worked for General Motors in Michigan. He married his first wife, Lois Jean,
and had two children, Pat Motika and Sandra Kilpatrick.
He worked for several corporations in Michigan and later on went to Cleary Business College in Ypsilanti, Michigan, working five jobs to pay for his education. He graduated in 1940. He then started his own business called “Credit Protection Agency" and added other credit-related businesses throughout the next several years.
He later divorced and soon after that was remarried to his second wife, also named Lois Jean.
He and his wife moved to Colorado Springs in 1958 with five children attached to this marriage.
They also had one child together.
He then started another business here on the west side of Colorado Springs in Old Colorado City called “Business Management Service” and his wife and he both ran the business into his early 80’s.
He was Vice President of the Pikes Peak Lions Club in the 60’s and was still active in it through the 70’s. He enjoyed traveling many places with his wife and spending time at his land at 11-Mile Reservoir with his family. He loved ice cream, animals, and loved being a business man with a positive outlook on life!
He is survived by his sister, Betty Homer, of S.Beloit, MI, his three daughters, Sandra Kilpatrick of Methuen, MA, Pat Motika of Dundee, MI, and Kimberly (Dik) Schray of Colorado Springs, five stepchildren, Cheryl Graham of Colorado Springs, Lorae Gilpatrick of Colorado Springs, Rick Graham of Colorado Springs, Robert Graham of Colorado Springs, and Randy (Debbie) Graham of Adrian, MN.
He had several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and numerous grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
He will be missed by all his loved ones. Thanks for all the memories!
A viewing is scheduled for 10:00 at Blunt Mortuary on July 1st, 2019 with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m.
He will be laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery after the Service.
Anyone is welcomed to join us there and afterwards for a celebration of Sandwiches Cake and Ice Cream at Pikes Peak United Methodist Church on 30th and Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs.
