Janice Darlene Parker-Knight
Former valley resident, Janice Parker-Knight, was born November 14, 1955 in Durango, Colorado. She joined the angels in heaven on June 2, 2022 after a long battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at a nursing home in Canon City surrounded by family.
She was the oldest of 6 children born to her parents, Jimmie and Jeane Knight. Shortly after her birth, her parents moved to Alamosa and purchased a home in the Waverly area where Jerry, Jeff, Jay, Judy and John joined the family. Janice graduated from Alamosa High School in 1974 and then attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho where she earned an Associates degree in journalism. It was then she began a life long career in the printing field. Janice worked for the Durango Herald as a typesetter and then moved to Pueblo where after working for a local printer for a few years then she opened her own typesetting freelance business. Janice moved to Colorado Springs and owned/operated ATS Intermountain printing company. She worked this business until February, 2022.
Janice met and married Darrell Moore and had a son, Todd. After the passing of her husband she eventually married James Parker of Alamosa. They had 2 more sons, Clay and Chad. After a few years in Colorado Springs, the couple divorced. She continued working her business and met William Whiting. They married and Janice raised her step son, Curtis, as if he was one of her own.
Growing up, Janice belonged to the typical Odd fellow family and spent her share of time in the Lodge hall ante room waiting for her parents and grandparents, William and Lucye Clair, to get out of their meeting. Janice enjoyed the lodge work and its teachings and became an avid Theta Rho Girl and then Rebekah living the life of the lodge for the remainder of her life. She held most of the offices in Phi Theta Rho in Alamosa and served as the state President in 1975-1976. She was initiated into Rio Grande Rebekah Lodge while still in high school. Janice filled most of the offices in the local Rebekah lodges where she resided and was elected as the President of the Rebekah Assembly of Colorado. She served as President of the Rebekah Assembly in 1998-1999. Janice had the unique opportunity to again serve as the President of the Rebekah Assembly in 2014-2015.
Janice is survived by her sons, Clay Parker (Colorado Springs), Chad Parker (Longmont) and Curtis Whiting (Waynesville, Missouri). Also her brothers Jeff Knight (Alamosa), Jay Knight (Alamosa), John Knight (Bennett) and sister Judy Donnelly (Colorado Springs) as well as 10 grandchildren.
Janice is proceeded in death by her son, Todd Parker, grandparents, parents, nephew Marshall Berry and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, Janice has asked that contributions be made to St. Jude. If attending either service, Janice has asked that you wear something purple to bring awareness and support to all those affected by cancer.
