Obituary for Janice Lee Van Cleave

Janice Lee Lanning Van Cleave was born March 15, 1927, in Atwood, Kansas. She was the daughter of James Russel Lanning and Erma A. Higley Lanning. She attended a one room elementary school at Tully country school. She attended her Freshman year at Atwood High School and the remaining three years of high school at Gem High School graduating in 1944. Janice continued her education at St. Joseph School of Nursing in Denver, Colorado. She graduated with an associate in 1947.

Janice married LeRoy Don Van Cleave at the Methodist Church in Colby, Kansas, in 1949. She worked as a staff nurse in Nebraska, Connecticut, and Kansas, before moving to Colorado Springs in 1955. She spent several years as a stay-at-home-mother, raising her five children before returning to nursing in 1967. Janice worked at Penrose Hospital for 22 years as a staff nurse, head nurse, and crisis nurse primarily in cardiac until retiring in 1989.

Her husband, LeRoy, preceded Janice in death in 2002. She is survived by her five children:
