Obituary

Jer Poth, 40, died in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Monday, 30 December 2019. He was born Jerry Lee Dickman on 21 May 1979 in Norwalk, Ohio. An adventure lover and thrill seeker since childhood, he had few fears. He was a 1997 graduate of Crestview High School in Ashland, Ohio. He grew up playing football, earning a scholarship to play in college. He was injured the summer before his college freshman year in a work accident that ended his college football dream. The following year he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a Military Policeman and was then selected to join the Air Force Special Operations Group TACP. Jer served in the Air Force for 9 years 4 months, 8 of them as a TACP Specialist, until he was injured and separated from active duty as a Staff Sargent. After recovering, he worked as a US Government contractor for 4 years. When his years in service ended he attended the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.

Jer was larger than life, and the life of the party. He loved deeply. The last eight months of Jer’s life were spent in his new home with his wife and children. He said it was the happiest his life had ever been. He was a loving father and husband. Jer left this world on Monday, December 30th. He will forever be missed, but his memory will live on through the lives of his children and in the hearts of all those who loved him.

Jer is survived by his wife, April and their unborn child, of Colorado Springs; his sons, Nicholas, 20, of South Carolina, Jonah, 14, Eli, 4, and Liam, 7 months; his step-daughter, Briella, 5 all of Colorado Springs. Parents, David and Patricia Poth of Ohio; his sisters, Mandie (Jon) Doak of Kansas, and Courtney (Dane) Patrick of Ohio; his nieces Selina, Liya, Ava, Christine and Hailey, and his nephew, Leyton, all who loved him dearly. He is also survived by many friends and military brothers and sisters. He is preceded in death by his biological father, Gary A. Dickman.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, 10 January 2020, at 11am, at Rocky Mountain Calvary Church 4285 North Academy Boulevard, Colorado Springs, Colorado. With a reception to follow. A private burial will take place at Pikes Peak National Cemetery.

Jerry lived near us and was friends with our sons Mike and Joe. I taught at Crestview then and was blessed to travel with the cheerleaders to all of his JV football games. I loved watching him play. So proud of the man he became. Fond memories flood my mind as I type this. Love ya guy. Blessings to your loved ones. I plan to see you in heaven one day. Looking forward to a firm bear hug.
