Obituary for Joan Louise Jones

Joan Louise Jones (Hollman) was born April 13, 1936 in New York City to John Carl and Helen Marie (Gee) Hollman. She was the youngest of five children and was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters: Helen, Mary, and Dorothy; and her brother John.

Joan was very proud to have grown up in New York City, and was quick to remind you, in her New York City accent, that it was specifically Manhattan. She worked in banking until she met her husband, John Jones. They were married March 16, 1957, she was 20 and he was 19.

John’s Navy career took them all over the world, and while stationed in Morocco, they adopted their only child, Kerri Marie, from Athens, Greece on June 19, 1964. Joan told so many stories about their travels. Her least favorite station was Adak, Alaska (it was too cold, and it got dark at 2 pm). Her favorite station was Guam, where she loved spending time in the sun at the beach.

When John retired from the Navy in 1976, they settled in Ohio, on a farm. Kerri was in High School during this time and Joan went back to working outside the home. John started a second career in nuclear consulting and he and Joan went on the road again, eventually settling in Aurora, Colorado. After John retired a second time, Joan and John worked at Sears for several years until moving to Colorado Springs to be closer to their grandsons whom she adored.

Joan’s dedication and love for her family and friends was evident in everything she did. She was devoted to and completely in love with her husband John. Joan fiercely loved her daughter Kerri, and her grandsons who she passionately spoiled. She embraced Kerri’s husband Kevin as a son. Joan truly cherished everyone in her family and was a source of strength, love, and comfort.

Joan led an exciting, adventurous, and full life. She had so many fond memories of serving God and her church all over the world. Her steadfast faith in God was an inspiration to everyone she met.

Joan passed peacefully on May 28, 2021 at home, surrounded by those she loved. She leaves behind, to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 64 years, John; her daughter, Kerri; her son in law, Kevin; her grandsons: Andrew, Braeden, and Michael (Caitlin); and many nieces and nephews and their families.

She will be deeply missed and those of us she leaves behind look forward to the day when we will be together again.
