Obituary for Jonne LaRae Johnston

Mrs. Jonne LaRae Johnston, daughter of the late Burdette and Roberta Hesterwerth (Winters), was born March 21, 1940 in McCook, Nebraska. Jonne died suddenly on December 16th at the age of 80, (non-COVID related).

Jonne graduated from St. Mary’s High School (’58) in Colorado Springs. She received degrees in Education from the University of Northern Colorado, Oceanside Carlsbad College, and the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs. Jonne was an educator throughout her adult life, teaching in elementary schools, at Divine Redeemer Sunday School and educating her sons at home. She specialized in elementary education and was a beloved Kindergarten teacher at Corpus Christi Catholic School in Colorado Springs for many years.

Jonne was a devout Catholic who prayed the rosary daily and was a member of the Divine Redeemer Parish for over 50 years. Jonne was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, aunt, mother, and grandmother.

Jonne was united in Holy Matrimony to Clovis Johnston in August of 1964. Their union of 56 years bore them two sons and a granddaughter, her oldest son Christopher, wife Dawn and daughter Emily reside in Keller, TX. Her younger son, Matthew and spouse Lynne live in Crested Butte, CO. Lynne’s very supportive daughters, Ashley, and Casandra, live in Denver and Colorado Springs, respectively.

Jonne is survived by her husband, Clovis L. Johnston and their two sons. Jonne also leaves behind her brother Larry Hesterwerth of Colorado Springs and his daughters Marlene Beatty & Laurie Hayes along with many beloved nieces and nephews. Jonne also leaves her brother Michael of Tucson, AZ, his wife Karen, and children: Mary & Sean.

Clovis Johnston would like to express his extreme gratitude to his many helpful neighbors whose love and support has been immeasurable. He also owes a debt of gratitude to his many Incline Friends.

Services will be held at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 N. Logan Ave, Colorado Springs, CO, 80909. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on December 28, 2020, followed by a 10:30 a.m. rosary, 11a.m. funeral Mass followed by interment at Evergreen Cemetery.
