Obituary for Juanita Emelia "Jennie " Lopez Nily

We know where you went, but we were not ready for you to go.

Jennie passed away on October 12, 2022, at the age of 80, surrounded by family, and will be deeply missed.

Jennie was born to Juan Isidro Lopez and Aurora Emelia Cantu in Manassa, Colorado and was most recently residing between homes in Colorado Springs, Colorado and Amarillo, Texas.

Jennie carried an optimistic outlook on life, and her infectious smile welcomed all whom she came across. Grandkids, great-grandchildren, and all others who entered her home were greeted by Disney movies, brain-teasing toys and puzzles. Her home was filled with the songs of Neil Diamond, old-time rock ‘n’ roll, and classic Mexican songs in Spanish.

Jennie’s greatest joy was spending time with her large family, whether on the phone or in person. Jennie loved deeply with her entire heart, and most importantly, received magnified love reciprocated from everyone, all the way to the end and there-on. None were ready for her departure, but all know that she’s assumed an ultimate resting place, at peace with the Lord, as Jennie remained a wholehearted believer and practicing Catholic her entire life. Jennie Emelia Lopez Nily will be eternally missed and was infinitely cherished both in life and death.

Jennie is survived by her six adult children: Kelly Nily, Katie Hollis, Laura Cook, Paula Ovalle, Julie Nily, Consuelo Guillen; her siblings, Reggie Lopez, Josie Camren, Frankie Lopez, Johnny Lopez, Virginia Sumpter-LaCroix, Clara Haas; 12 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

Jennie is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Juan Isidro Lopez and Aurora Emelia Cantu.
