Obituary for Juanita Rosalina Dixon

On Sunday, November 28, 2021, our beloved “mother” and “grandmother” left our world on eagle’s wings and heaven bound to live in the mansion prepared especially for her by our Father. To her family, she was more precious than rubies. And to God be the glory. Amen!

In this world, she was daughter of Marcelino and Eneda Varoz; sister of Joe, Velma, Libby, Ernie, and Benjamin. She was born and raised in the San Luis Valley, where she went to school and worked in the fields and on the farm. She married and became the mother of Chris, Maria, Becky, Cathy, Georganna, and Andy; grandmother to Cindy Hope and Little Jose, Shawn, Denny and Dwayne, and Ashley and Corey; mother-in-law of Sandy, Don, Jose, and OB; great grandmother extending two generations; and cherished friend and caregiver to many in our community. She called Colorado Springs “home” and was the beloved wife of Gene Dixon.

In the early years, as a single parent, she worked tirelessly to raise her children and encouraged us to go to school and/or join the military. Her prayers and desires for each of us instilled hope and her exemplary work ethic motivated us. Simply put, “laziness” was unacceptable.

For the last few years, mother battled dementia with her family at her side. Dementia is the uninvited house guest that arrives unexpectedly like a thief in night and never leaves. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning – thinking, remembering, reasoning, and behavioral abilities to such an extent that it gradually robs them of their dignity and continually interferes with life’s daily activities. Mother never asked for our help, but we knew she needed us, and we can honestly and proudly say that we provided 24-hour care for her until she drew her last breath. During this arduous journey, we met many health care and hospice professionals who supported our family. Outstanding care was provided by the Agewell Medical Associate Staff and Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care. Mere words cannot convey our gratitude. Our journey may have ended, but their daily dedication and commitment to helping the next family lives on.

Special thanks to the Summit Glen Retirement Community where mother chose to live before dementia set in. The residents of this wonderful community provided an abundance of support, love, and laughter; the community is managed by Alan & Natalie and a wonderful staff. We are forever grateful that we found you!
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Pike’s Peak Hospice and Palliative Care. Your contribution will ensure that the families who require hospice services will continue to receive outstanding service and support.
