Obituary for Karen Jacqueline Frick

Karen Jacqueline Frick (Ney) graced the world with her presence on September 25, 1960 in Hatboro-Horsham, Pennsylvania. She departed this world on April 6, 2021 in Peyton, Colorado.

She was married for 33 years and 4 days to James Frick of Peyton, Colorado. Karen had four children she loved with every bit of her heart: Jeramie (Crystal), Jacob Riese, Megan, and Lizzy Frick.

The favorite part of her 60 years of life was by far being called NANA by Joey, Ryan, Sean, Scott, Gabe, and Andrew Riese. She would move heaven and earth for those boys, and everyone knew not to stand in her way. Her smile was a mile wide and always on her face when those boys, horses, or racing was even mentioned. Family was always her number one. All she really wanted was some peace and harmony between all her family members and ironically always wanted us together because she never knew when her magic would fail. She was the glue that kept us all together and healed all our battle wounds and said everything that is thrown at your face will make you a better person whether you know the reason or not. She was the Capital F and the Y in FAMILY always.

Karen’s passion and downright love of all things in her life are simple but very sweet. The color purple and of course that number 11 FedEx car driven by Denny Hamlin. The original horsepower of the four-legged variety was undeniable. Horses are the reason she is so grounded and at peace. She loved those trail rides and just being free and having your life in their hands on top of some of Colorado's beautiful mountains and parks.

Bus driving runs through her blood. Her occupation started when she was 18 years old and still doing it until her last day on this earth. The rare passion of her love of what you do shines oh so bright for being trusted to be the person to get your children to and from school or sporting events, in that yellow or white bus that is the true symbol of all things education. Everyone far and wide knew Ms. Karen and her one pet peeve of no singing “the wheels on the bus” song.

Cheyenne Mountain School District 12 has been her home for the past 4 years; she also gave the rest of her time at school districts 11 and 49, and also worked at CPCD. Every person she came in contact with became a part of her life and she welcomed all of them. We all knew when going in public with her was a guarantee of running into at least two people she knew, wherever we were.

Heart of gold is an understatement and doesn’t even begin to describe this woman. She was determined to make sure everybody had a little bit of her shine wear off on them. Her motto was if you can help at least one person when they can't help themselves, it makes you a better person. She raised us to be our own force of nature and to be a great person to everybody, and to kill them with kindness.

The world will truly be missing a shining star. She has great company in the heavenly skies with her dad, Austin, Nina, Betty, Annie, and Mr. Bill. I bet she is riding every horse she can up there as well.

It would be an understatement to say the world is going to be very lost without her. We all know we will make the best of it and make her very proud. In the words of my mother’s favorite movie “no one put baby in the corner” this life is the only one you get so have the time of your life. We need more people in the world like Karen! Heart of gold, beautiful inside and out, and always willing to think about the people around her first. Surround yourself with happiness and you will thrive.

“Whatever our souls are made of hers and mine are the same.” Bronte
