Obituary for Laura Frances Hanks (Bettencourt)

Laura Frances (Bettencourt) Hanks went home to be with our Lord on June 17, 2022. Laura was the first born to Louis and Evelyn Bettencourt on September 11, 1931, in Portland, Oregon. At 17 she moved with her family to Condon, Oregon where she graduated high school. In 1954 Laura packed her bags and moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to join her fiancé, Paul Hanks. To this union were born three children; Glenda, Bart, and Sheila.

Laura’s purpose and calling in life was to be a mom and she was very good and dedicated to that calling. She worked most of her adult life for School District #11 in Junior High Schools, Washington Irving, West, and Emerson. During summers she would return to Oregon to visit family or visit her grandsons in Wisconsin. Laura was loyal to her friends and family, an avid Minnesota Viking fan, and a staunch patriot. After retirement Laura worked tirelessly in her yard planting flowers and taking care of the grass.

Laura was pre-deceased by her parents and sister, Dorothy Boyer. She is survived by her brothers Frank (Garnett) Bettencourt and Don Bettencourt, both of Condon, OR, her children, Glenda Pecor (John Voniak), Bart (Lynne) Hanks, and Sheila (Dave) Sealander. Also left to cherish her memory are her grandchildren: Heath, Brandon, Trystan, Shian, and Kolton, great-grandchildren Gus and Oliver, and several nieces and nephews. Laura did not wish for a service at this time, however, there will be a gathering most likely in September.
