Obituary

Robert “Bob” Charles Turner, 93, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully at his home on November 6, 2020.

Bob was born to Mabel (Riley) Turner (deceased) and Robert P. Turner (deceased) in Denver, Colorado on January 28, 1927. He grew up in Grand Junction and Matheson, Colorado.

He lost his father at a very young age. He was blessed with a wonderful stepfather, Joseph “Pappy” Surwald (deceased) that taught him right from wrong, to put in a good day’s work, and most importantly, to enjoy life.

Bob and his beloved Lorraine were married May 17, 1947. They spent 72 wonderful years together until Lorraine passed away in 2018.

Bob served in the United States Army during the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He separated from the Army with an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Staff Sergeant, December 7, 1946.

He was employed by NAPA Automotive Shop and retired as shop foreman after thirty-eight years.

Some of the things Bob enjoyed were hunting, fishing and camping. He and Lorraine loved to travel as much as possible and enjoyed dancing. Most of all, he enjoyed family gatherings.

Bob was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #143 for 56 years, Elks Lodge #309 for 31 years, and a life member of the VFW.

He is survived by his children: Doug (Valita) Turner, Joyce Capps, Gary Turner, Joel (Jennifer) Turner and Jeff (Debbie) Turner; sister in-law, Karen Lenear; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Francis Trujillo; great-grandson, Layne Slater; and son in-law, Stan Capps.

Donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
