After 12 years of travels and adventures, they settled down by building a home on three acres behind Pikes Peak. He enjoyed his walks by himself, with his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed hand-feeding the local deer, and fishing at 11 Mile State Park. Even though he sometimes had a gruff attitude, he always gave good life advice and loved deeply.
