Obituary for William Loring "Woody " Woodward

William “Woody” Woodward passed away suddenly at home on March 16, 2022. He was in his favorite chair, in the arms of his loving wife, Diana.

Woody was born in Hartford Hospital to William C. and Josephine “Jay” Woodward. He was the eldest of four children, mostly raised in Windsor Locks, CT, and graduated from Windsor Locks High School. At age 15 he met his soulmate, Diana McCarthy, whom he married in 1974. In 1980 they started a new adventure together in Colorado, where their three children were born and raised.

While working full time, and helping to raise his children, he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering from Colorado Technical University. He then went on to receive a master’s in business administration from the University of Colorado. He has worked for over forty years in manufacturing and was currently employed at PS Audio as the Director of Operations.

He was a dedicated family man and was devoted to his wife and kids. He loved having all the family together, especially around the holidays. His absolute favorite holiday was Christmas, where he lit up the house like National Lampoons. At any gathering you would often find him regaling people with his many (mis)adventures. With his family, he went on many camping excursions all over Colorado and beyond. His heart and his house were also open to any and all friends of his children. Many thought of him as a second father.

He had a lifelong passion for music, which he passed on and shared with all of his children. In addition to playing several instruments he loved to sing and write his own songs. In addition to writing songs, he also enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. He wrote a blog, was working on a novel, and published a music column in Copper Magazine. His humorous and witty tales will be missed by many.

He loved all sports, but was an avid Red Socks, Celtics, and Raider’s fan (much to the chagrin of his Bronco loving co-workers). He looked forward to watching March Madness every year with his son.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Diana, and three children: Bree Woodward and her husband Jimmy, Amanda Good and her husband Brenden, and Dean Woodward and his wife Joy. He is also survived by his two brothers: Eddie, his wife Caryn, and their three children Emily, Jacob and Brendon, and his youngest brother Jimmy.

He was a loving, joyful man with a zest for life that will be intensely missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memorial service will be held on Friday, March 25, 2022, at 2pm. The service will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home at 1830 E. Fountain Blvd, Colorado Springs.
