Obituary for Mary Katherine Whitt (Warner)

Mary Whitt was a resident of Manitou Springs for over 23 years. She passed away on September 17, 2016. Mary was born in Nashville, Arkansas on October 7, 1949, but spent most of her childhood and early adult years in St. Louis, Missouri. She moved to Colorado in 1968 to attend the University of Denver, where she graduated with a BA in history and a Master's in Social Work. It was at DU that Mary met her beloved husband, George.

She spent over 40 years working as a mental health therapist in the Colorado Springs community through her practice, Positive Change. Her other job as a devoted and loving mother took up the rest of her time, as she helped with homeroom parties, coaching t-ball and softball alongside George, and as a Girl Scout leader for her daughter's friends. You could always find Mary with a book in her hand, or a craft project on the table.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Claire Warner. She is survived by her husband, George Whitt; her three children, Michael, Ryan and Claire Whitt; her granddaughter, Alexis Bitz-Whitt. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Jack Warner, Peggy Facer, Mike Warner, Ted Warner, Pat Warner and Betsy Warner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Blunt Mortuary, 2229 W. Colorado Avenue, Colorado Springs on Friday, September 23rd from 6:00-8:00 pm. Services will be held at Community Congregational Church, 103 Pawnee Avenue, Manitou Springs on September 24th at 1:00 pm.
